Become a Rescuer

New volunteers

Joining the Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico Trentino is a choice born from the desire to dedicate your time and skills to the community, even in extreme situations. Our training programme allows you to progress step by step, acquire new skills, and work alongside a well-prepared and united team.

Requirements

Not everyone can become an operator of the Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico Trentino, as it is an activity that demands high levels of preparation, attention, and a strong sense of responsibility.
The selection process allows us to assess not only technical skills, but also the ability to read and interpret the environment, move independently in diverse terrains, and maintain focus and clear decision-making under pressure.

Strong mountaineering skills and experience
Age between 18 and 45 years
Successful completion of a technical and aptitude selection for activities on mountain terrain, rock, ice and snow, held annually over several days starting in autumn

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who can attend the training courses of the Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico Trentino?

Courses offered by the Provincial School of CNSAS Trentino and the National Schools are reserved for selected rescuers. To access training, it is necessary first to pass the entry selection and become part of the Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico Trentino.

  • How do I access the training programme?

To enter the training programme, candidates must:

    • Have strong mountaineering skills and experience
    • Meet the required age criteria
    • Pass a technical and aptitude selection

Only after completing this step, you can join the actual training courses, run by the Provincial School in collaboration with the National Schools.

  • What does the training programme involve?

The course includes theoretical and practical modules on:

    • Rope-handling techniques, the use of anchors and haul systems, stretcher management and orientations
    • Orientation, terrain and risk assessment
    • Alpine and cave first aid (trauma, hypothermia, injured management)
    • Teamwork, communication and coordination with the operations centre and other
      emergency system components

A significant part of the training takes place in real environments, with exercises simulating actual operational scenarios.

  • How long does the training programme last?

Training is an ongoing process rather than a single course. After the initial phase, which provides the basic skills to operate in a team, there are periodic updates, mandatory refreshers, and possible specialisations (avalanche, canyon, cave, missing-person search, etc.).

Yes. To remain active within the Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico Trentino, members must:

    • Undertake technical assessments and practical tests
    • Maintain medical and first-aid skills
    • Participate in periodic exercises and refreshers

Continuous commitment is essential to ensure that team members maintain up-to-date skills and
can operate effectively as a coordinated unit.
